Read  1 CORINTHIANS 15:50-57 (ESV)   SOAP v. 57wk6d2

50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O death, where is your victory?    O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

O – Victory!  We have victory in and through Jesus Christ!   Victory over what?  Victory over sin – and victory over death.  From what I read in verse 56, I see that the sting of death (the power that death has) is sin.  Because we are sinners, our natural end result is death – not just physical death, but a death that separates us from God eternally.  Sin’s power brings that death – because we can’t (and don’t) obey the law.  Our sin brings death.  “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord!”  (Romans 6:23) And the end of today’s passage gives another BUT – “BUT thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”  The victory is over death – eternal death.  Eternal death WILL NO LONGER have power over us.  We will die, physically, BUT, we will have victory over that eternal death.  We will see Jesus!  We will see loved ones who have passed away.  We will be raised – to life!  All because we are forgiven!

A – I am learning the extent of the forgiveness that God gives us.  It isn’t just the forgiveness for a sin that I have committed, but it is a forgiveness that reigns over eternity.  It goes beyond today, or tomorrow, or next year – or the rest of my life.  It goes beyond my death.  It is forever!  When I die, it is a physical death – but also a raising to eternal life.  It will bring “immortality”, an “imperishable” body, and VICTORY!  That is where the BUT THANKS BE TO GOD – comes from!  Thank You, God, for this victory!  We are conquerors – over death.  We have victory over sin and death – through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ!

1 John 5:4 – For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Romans 8:37 –  No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

P – Father God, thank You seems too small for this victory.  You have given me eternal life, forgiveness of my sins – and the victory to live today and the rest of my days.  I want to be a living sacrifice, Father – in response to the great gift that You have given to me.  Impress on my heart how to live for You – moment by moment, and day by day.  Thank You, Father – Thanks be to You, God – for the victory through the Lord Jesus Christ.  To You be praise and glory – through me, today.

“Redeemed”
Seems like all I could see was the struggle
Haunted by ghosts that lived in my past
Bound up in shackles of all my failures
Wondering how long is this gonna last
Then You look at this prisoner and say to me “son
Stop fighting a fight it’s already been won”

I am redeemed, You set me free
So I’ll shake off these heavy chains
Wipe away every stain, now I’m not who I used to be
I am redeemed, I’m

redeemed

All my life I have been called unworthy
Named by the voice of my shame and regret
But when I hear You whisper, “Child lift up your head”
I remember, oh God, You’re not done with me yet

I am redeemed, You set me free
So I’ll shake off these heavy chains
Wipe away every stain, now I’m not who I used to be

Because I don’t have to be the old man inside of me
‘Cause his day is long dead and gone
Because I’ve got a new name, a new life, I’m not the same
And a hope that will carry me home

I am redeemed, You set me free
So I’ll shake off these heavy chains
Wipe away every stain, ’cause I’m not who I used to be

I am redeemed, You set me free
So I’ll shake off these heavy chains
Wipe away every stain, yeah, I’m not who I used to be
Oh, God, I’m not who I used to be
Jesus, I’m not who I used to be
‘Cause I am redeemed
Thank God, redeemed
