Week Four – Day 4 – Read Psalm 24        SOAP v. 8WK4D4

King of Glory –

Psalm 24 (ESV)

The King of Glory

A Psalm of David.

24 The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.

Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
and does not swear deceitfully.
He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah

Lift up your heads, O gates!
And be lifted up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle!
Lift up your heads, O gates!
And lift them up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
he is the King of glory! Selah

O – Who is this King of Glory?

  • He owns the earth – all of it, and is fullness belong to Him.
  • Everyone who lives on earth belongs to Him
  • He created the earth and “established” it
  • He lives in a holy place
  • He gives blessings and righteousness
  • Those who seek Him will receive those blessings
  • He is Coming! His coming is announced
  • He is strong and mighty – and mighty in battle
  • He is the King of Glory!
  • Those who come to Him must have clean hands and a pure heart, and not lift up their hearts to what is false (false idols?)

A – THIS is the God that created and molded me!!  The God who created and established the earth, who is mighty in battle – created me.  He gives blessings – to me.  What is my responsibility to this King of Glory?  To have clean hands (my actions) and a pure heart (my attitudes and thoughts) and to be true to Him (not lift up my heart to what is false). Does this describe me?  Are my actions “clean?”  Are my intentions and attitudes and thoughts pure?  Do I worship Him alone?  He pursues me with His love – I must do the same.

But another aspect of this is that this King of Glory is with me.  His presence dwells in me.  This gives me the courage and the strength to face whatever is before me.

P – Father God, walk with me today.  Go before me, as the King of Glory, reminding me of Your truth and righteousness.  Thank You for Your daily presence – even while being the great Creator and Sustainer of the earth.  Help me to have clean hands, a pure heart, and to pursue You alone.   You are my God – the King of GLory.  Amen.

David wasn’t necessarily all that brave; he just believed God is who He says He is. How is God described in Psalm 24:8? How does this truth give us courage to be brave in our battles?

King of Glory –

Who is this King of Glory that pursues me with his love
And haunts me with each hearing of His softly spoken words
My conscience, a reminder of forgiveness that I need
Who is this King of Glory who offers it to me
Who is this King of angels, O blessed Prince of Peace
Revealing things of Heaven and all its mysteries
My spirit’s ever longing for His grace in which to stand
Who’s this King of glory, Son of God and son of man
His name is Jesus, precious Jesus
The Lord Almighty, the King of my heart
The King of glory
Who is this King of Glory with strength and majesty
And wisdom beyond measure, the graceous King of kings
the Lord of Earth and Heaven, the Creator of all things
Who is this King of Glory, He’s everything to me
The Lord of Earth and Heaven, the Creator of all things
He is the King of glory, He’s everything to me
