Revelation 19:11-16English Standard Version (ESV)

The Rider on a White Horse

11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself.13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

O – Jesus , the Lamb of God, is described here.  He is riding on a white horse – and is called Righteous and True – names that also describe Him.  What does He do, and what does He look like?      He judges and makes war.  His name is written down, but no one knows it but Him.  He is called the Word of God.  He is being followed by the armies of heaven, wearing white lining and riding white horses.  He will “strike down the nations” and rule them with a rod of iron.  He will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.  He IS King of kings and Lord of lords.  He sounds fearsome – almost scary in his appearance and actions.  What does He do – armed like this?  He judges and makes war.  Is this war a spiritual war – against Satan and all those who oppose Him?   Will He judge them then?

A – Traveling as I am , with no other resources but my Bible, it is hard to discern this passage!  But, what I can glean is that I want to be on His side!  If He is Righteous and true, then I want to be as well.  I know, from other readings, that He will (actually already has…) defeat Satan and his armies.  He WILL be fearful.   He will be robed in might and majesty.  The time to declare His side is now.

P – Father God, sometimes is it so hard to understand the symbolism and language of Your word.   I confess that tonight is one of those times.  But, I do know that I want to be on Your side.  I choose, today, to serve You, not Your enemies.  As Joshua said, “Choose you this day who you will serve…. As for me and my house,, we will serve the Lord. “.   I choose to serve You.

The first time Jesus came to us He came as a baby. The second time He comes He will be sitting on a white horse and will bring righteous judgment.  How does seeing Jesus as a warrior change your view of Him?

“Worthy Is The Lamb”

Thank you for the cross Lord
Thank you for the price You paid
Bearing all my sin and shame
In love You came
And gave amazing grace

Thank you for this love Lord
Thank you for the nail pierced hands
Washed me in Your cleansing flow
Now all I know
Your forgiveness and embrace

Worthy is the Lamb
Seated on the throne
Crown You now with many crowns
You reign victorious
High and lifted up
Jesus Son of God
The Darling of Heaven crucified
Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb
