Growing Through Prayer – Week Two – Day 3

Day Three – Read  Acts 9:40 ESV   SOAP Acts 9:40WK2D3

Still my Soul be Still –

40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.

O – Peter was called to the house of Dorcas, who had been ministering to widows. She had made clothing for them, and encouraged them.  After being taken sick, she died, and was put in her room in preparation for her burial.  Peter took all the mourners outside her room, and knelt down to pray.  His first action?  To pray.  And then, in faith, he told her to rise.  She did!  As a result, there were many who became believers.  His faith – God’s faithfulness – and many came to faith!

A – How many times in crisis is my first reaction to pray?  Do I run around (at least in my head) worrying, or do I go directly to the Lord in prayer – and then act in faith?  This is a convicting thought.  I need to remember this – to go to Him FIRST!

I remember last week at our small group, one of our members was in severe back pain spasms due to an automobile accident injury.  He had gotten off the couch, knelt for awhile, and then laid down on the floor to try to get relief for pain.  Our small group surrounded him, laid hands on him, and prayed for him.  To me, that was the description of what a small group should be like – to go to prayer when the need presents itself.  That image of eight people, surrounding a fellow member, in prayer – is such a powerful one for me.    The body of Christ – BEING the body of Christ….

P – Father God – bring to mind Your love, Your power, Your willingness to hear and answer – when I run into needs.  Bring me to my knees – or a posture of prayer – immediately.  Thank You for the ability to access Your throne immediately, and without guilt.  You are the Healer.  You are the Provider.  You are the Mighty God.  You are God – alone.
