Hymn - O the Deep Deep Love of Jesus

Romans 5:6-11English Standard Version (ESV)

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Romans 8:31-39English Standard Version (ESV)

God’s Everlasting Love

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can beagainst us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Hebrews 6:19 (ESV) – 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,

Scripture reflections:

God’s love for us: He sent His only Son to die for us – even while we were still sinners.  Was there any guarantee that His love for us would be returned?  That isn’t His thought.  He sent His Son – WHILE we were still sinners!  But, now because of Christ’s death (and resurrection), we are now justified.  We are reconciled to God.  We now have communion with Him!

What will separate me from Him?  NOTHING!  Nobody.  Nothing.  In everything – trials, tribulation, distress, persecution, famine – WHATEVER – We are MORE THAN conquerors through Him!  NOTHING will be able to separate us from God’s love!  What a blessing!  What relief!  I am convinced (and continue to be convinced – beyond any doubt)!  It is UNLIMITED – this love of God.

The writer of Hebrews gives us a word picture – a “sure and steadfast anchor of the soul.”  My hope can be secure in Him, as surely as an anchor holds a boat secure in the storm.  In the storms of my life, God surely is – and has been – an anchor for my soul!

No wonder it is the DEEP DEEP love of Jesus – we can’t measure or quantify it.  How do you measure the love of someone who gave their life for you?  It is immeasurable.  Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!    Thank you, Father God – for this great love.  May I sense Your love today – and pass it along to others along the way.

O THE DEEP DEEP LOVE OF JESUS
by Samuel Trevor Francis, 1875

O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me,
Is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward
To Thy glorious rest above!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth,
Changeth never, nevermore!
How He watches o’er His loved ones,
Died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth,
Watcheth o’er them from the throne!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Love of every love the best!
Tis an ocean vast of blessing,
Tis a haven sweet of rest!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Tis a heaven of heavens to me;
And it lifts me up to glory,
For it lifts me up to Thee!

O the Deep deep love –

O the Deep Deep Love of Jesus – different tune, and beautiful! –
