Gal 5 v25

Galatians 5:22 – 26 – 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. (ESV)

Galatians 5:22-25 – 22 But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature together with its passions and appetites.  25 If we [claim to] live by the [Holy] Spirit, we must also walk by the Spirit [with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage—our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit].  (AMP)

A –  As I was thinking through this passage, an image came to mind.  Verse 25 says to “keep in step with the Spirit”.  I was thinking of walking with Paul, hand in hand.  When our steps match up, our walking is easier, and there is harmony in the step.  Our gait becomes smooth.  In the same way, when we “keep in step with the Spirit,” there is harmony between our lives and our hearts.  The Amplified Version goes further to state that we need to walk by the Spirit (with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage – our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit.) Wow!  But, that is the power that gives us the ability to live out the fruit of the Spirit!

Have I crucified MY sinful nature in order to live by the Spirit?  Do I REALLY claim to live by the Spirit, living in His power, with integrity, character, and courage?  Do I respond to His promptings?  Does the fruit in my life come from the Holy Spirit, or does it reflect my fleshly nature?  I need to INTENTIONALLY crucify my sinful nature, daily, in order to walk by the Spirit.
